One of the most intriguing quests is the final mission of the "By the Stars" chapter, where players must track down elusive Mimic Lairs. These tricky creatures, disguised as treasure chests, are part of the Fortune Teller's "Pulling Back the Veil" quest puzzle. This guide will walk you through finding the Mimic Lairs, and defeating these deceptive monsters.

The Fortune Teller's Quest: Pulling Back the Veil

The "Pulling Back the Veil" quest is a significant part of the "By the Stars" chapter in Dark and Darker, challenging players to hunt down Mimics and defeat various other creatures in pursuit of fortune. As one of the more rewarding quests in the game, this mission offers players the chance to earn Dark and Darker Gold and gather valuable Dark and Darker Items by engaging in thrilling battles against elusive enemies.

Completing this quest requires navigating dungeons, locating Mimic Lairs, and taking down a series of monsters to unlock treasure chests and collect the quest's final rewards. Here's everything you need to know to succeed.

Mimic Lair Locations in Dark and Darker

There are two main Mimic Lairs scattered across the dungeons of Dark and Darker, both found within the depths of the Howling Crypts. While the exact layout of each dungeon may vary, the general structure remains consistent, making it possible to locate these Mimic Lairs with careful exploration.

    The First Howling Crypt:

The first Mimic Lair is located within the first Howling Crypt, an ominous dungeon filled with lurking dangers. Once you enter, be on high alert, as Mimics are known to disguise themselves as treasure chests to lure unsuspecting adventurers. These creatures are notorious for surprising players with sudden attacks, so approach each chest cautiously.

As you make your way through the crypt, locate at least three Mimic chests to fulfill the quest requirements. Destroying them will count towards your quest progression and often drops valuable Dark and Darker Items and Gold as a reward.

    The Fifth Howling Crypt:

The second Mimic Lair can be found in the fifth Howling Crypt, which is a deeper, more challenging section of the dungeon. Prepare for stronger enemies and heightened danger, as this crypt is known for its particularly aggressive Mimics. Similar to the first crypt, you'll need to destroy at least three Mimics here to progress in the Fortune Teller's quest.

In both crypts, you'll also encounter Death Skulls and Death Beetles, creatures that add additional layers of difficulty to the mission. Completing the quest requires defeating at least three of each of these creatures in addition to the Mimics.

Strategies for Finding and Defeating Mimics

Mimics are challenging foes, and taking them down efficiently will ensure you make the most of your time in the crypts. Here are some tips to help you locate and defeat Mimics while maximizing your chances of acquiring Dark and Darker Gold and rare items:

Check Every Chest Carefully: Mimics disguise themselves as treasure chests, so it's essential to approach each chest with caution. Mimics tend to give off subtle, eerie sounds, so listen closely to identify them. You can also watch for slight movements that distinguish Mimics from genuine treasure chests.

Use Light Sources to Spot Mimics: Lighting up dark areas of the crypts with torches or other light sources can help reveal hidden threats. Mimics are often positioned in shadowy parts of the dungeon, so illuminating these spaces increases your chances of spotting them before they ambush you.

Target Weak Points: Mimics are resistant to damage and can deal heavy hits if they get too close. Aim for their weak points, usually their exposed "mouth" area, for maximum damage. Ranged attacks can be particularly effective, allowing you to stay at a safe distance.
